Perhaps you’ve heard the phrase, ”Perfectionism is the enemy of progress.” Well, perfectionism is the enemy of a lot of different things.
Hi. I’m Mark Bullock. I’m the co-founder of Videosocials.net and phoneBlogger.net.
And it’s so common that if you’re not used to doing a lot of marketing — you’re not used to doing a lot of content creation, etc., your tendency is, as mine was, that it’s got to be perfect.
It’s got to relay, not only the message that you want to get across, it’s got to be compelling. You’ve got to look great. You’ve got to sound great if you’re on video, etc., etc.
Here’s the thing — perfectionism is your enemy. What I’m talking about is, it’s not the 11 o’clock news. It’s not what we have seen on television for the last however many years that you’ve been alive watching television. The stuff that we’re creating for our audience, that’s going out on social media — again, whether that be text, whether that be audio, whether that be video, but especially when it comes to video is what people are looking for is realism.
They’re looking for authenticity. They’re looking to connect with you. They’re looking to see that you understand where they’re coming from, that you have empathy for the plight that they’re going through, the problems that they want to solve, etc. They’re not concerned with whether or not there’s something a little out of place — your hair is a little out of place or you stumble over a word. They’re concerned with, are you a real person that really knows what they’re doing and really understands where they’re coming from.
So, put your focus on your audience and less on being perfect in how you deliver the message, right. So, a word out of place, using a preposition incorrectly — something like that is way down the list to actually getting it out there, because until you get out there, and you get out there consistently, there are no results.
