Videosocials.net and phoneBlogger.net COO and Co-Founder, Mark Bullock, discusses the intent and motivation behind maintaining blogs. Sometimes we get so wrapped up in the mechanics of making and optimizing our content that we stray away from the original intent of blogging — to be a thought leader and to connect with your audience by delivering them something of value.

What’s on your mind? Hi, I’m Mark Bullock with Videosocials.net and phoneBlogger.net and something again a little different today.
And I wanted to come back to what is a blog? What was it intended for? What is a podcast? Where did these concepts originally come from and how have they evolved?
Because we see now, of course, that we want our content to land for our audience. We want it to be attractive to them. We want to have calls to action peppered throughout, if not at the end of the video. We want to have a specific goal before we even start.
And sometimes I think we can get so wrapped up in all of the mechanics of making and optimizing the content that we’re creating, that we could get away from what the original intent, or what was originally thought out when we considered doing things like blogs or podcasts and, of course, now videos. And that is really for you to be, as a thought leader or an aspiring thought leader, to put your thoughts out there as part of a conversation to allow other people to engage so that you could, one: gauge what information you do want to be presenting; and two: how that information is landing. What kind of impact does it have? What does it… what does it do for your audience as well as for your own personal growth and your own personal understanding of things that as you’re thinking about things and as you’re presenting ideas, you’re trying to assimilate into messaging that can make a difference, right? Whether that difference be selling your services, selling your products, or whether it be your connection with your audience, etcetera.
And that kind of… and that’s kind of what this is. This conversation is intended to be a conversation about that, and perhaps it’s because I’ve done so many videos and I’ve written so many blog posts over so many years that I’m coming back to the basics of I get refinement of my message from the interaction that happens after people have consumed what I’ve put out there.
And so… and that may be in a Videosocials meeting; that may be comments on a blog post; that may be comments on a social media post, etcetera. But it helps me refine where I want to go next, and what information that I want to provide next and how to do it in a way that moves people, that actually makes a difference.
So I guess if I had a message for this rambling, as it were, it’s that don’t be afraid sometimes to let go of the goal, the intent, the call to action, all the stuff that we say are best practices, and just have a conversation. Just put an idea out there and see what comes back. Because if you have an audience or you’re developing an audience, that audience wants to hear what’s going on behind the scenes — what you’re thinking about, not just what you’ve prepared.
Again, Mark with Videosocials.net and phoneBlogger.net. Please do comment. Please do get back to me on your thoughts on this, and I hope to hear from you soon. Take care.
