What’s your best asset when you’re on camera?

Hi. I’m Mark Bullock. I’m the co-founder of Videosocials.net and phoneBlogger.net and that’s kind of an off -the -wall question, isn’t it?

What’s your best asset and don’t we really want everything to be our best asset — our voice, our appearance, our background, etc. I think sometimes we get too tied up in all of the minutiae and trying to make everything perfect. What am I talking about?

I’m talking about you have something that makes you distinct. Maybe you have a great voice — a radio voice. Maybe your appearance — you’re exceptionally good looking. Maybe you have a big beard. Whatever it is, there’s something that makes you distinctive and I encourage you to let that be.

Be who you are. So, rather than trying to be what you think might look good on camera because what that probably entails is what you expect to see on television — not necessarily what you expect to see on YouTube or other social media video platforms. What people want to see when they’re on social media — what they want to engage with — what they want to hear — the information that they want to consume, they want to consume from real people. And all of us have some attribute that we can bring to the screen that distinguishes us, that helps us be remembered by those that are paying attention.

I’ve kind of gone out of my way to have a couple of different things that are obvious as far as in my appearance, but I’ve also been told that I’ve got a pretty good voice. And with a lot of practice, I know how to look at the camera because I realized that your eyes are there. So, there is… I’m aware of what I have working for me but I’m also aware that, you know my background is a little bland, etc. But those things get worked around because my focus is on making sure that you’re getting the value that I’m trying to get across to you. And that being said, that’s part of my character which is part of what makes me a little distinguished or a little different than you might see from other people that are ”in marketing.”

Little bit of a ramble today but I really want you to think about what are your best attributes and let those shine. If it’s your enthusiasm, as an example, whatever it is, let that shine through. The other stuff we’ll touch on, you know, you want to be your best self, but you want to be truly authentic as to who you are because that’s going to help people to connect with you, and to pay attention, and to be compelled by what you have to say.

Hope you found this valuable. If you did, there’re lots more at Videosocials.net/Academy. There’ll be a link below for that. Again, Mark Bullock, co-founder of Videosocials.net and phoneBlogger.net. Have a great day.
