How do you deliver bad news on video? And should you in the first place?

Hi, I’m Mark Bullock, I’m the co-founder of Videosocials.net and phoneBlogger.net.

Well, the good news is, yes, you can deliver bad news on video. But how do you do it in such a way that it’s not going to push your audience away, but rather draw them to you?

So, part of that is, you know, what is the question that you’re going to ask or the statement that you’re going to make as part of the titles of your video? The other part of that is how do you introduce the bad news?

So, when push comes to shove, it all comes down to, people can receive bad news from those that they can relate to. And so, you need to be able to empathize with what they’re feeling about it and what they may all of a sudden find themselves feeling about it if the bad news is going to be scary for them. So, how does this come into play?

Well, as an example, if you’re an attorney or you’re an insurance broker or you’re somebody that often has to give people bad news that… what do you do when you’re having a conversation with them? Well, you kind of soften the blow where you can. You gotta tell them straight but you want to find ways to mitigate the impact of whatever it is that’s going to happen.

And so, if your audience can feel like you’re the person that’s going to help them to mitigate, that yeah, they’re going to have to deal with this — they’re going to have to rewrite their agreements — they’re going to have to pay a higher insurance premium — whatever it is — that you’re there, you understand, you would feel the same way if you were in their shoes, and you’d like to help them to mitigate — reduce the impact of whatever that bad news is. That’s a way of taking a negative and turning it into a positive, so that you’re there to support and help them find ways, again, to make it less impactful and really, you can only do that if they feel like you understand where they’re coming from.

So, put yourself in their shoes. Put yourself in their mindset, and if you can have a conversation in person, you can have that conversation on video.

I hope you found that valuable. Again, my name is Mark Bullock. I’m the co -founder of Videosocials.net and of phoneBlogger.net. If you did, you’ll also find lots more at Videosocials.net/Academy. Take care.
